Michael E. Tang is a creative leader and collaborator focused on the future of public media and the changing ways audiences discover, experience, and engage with storytelling.
He serves as Director of PBS Plus at the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), where he leads national programming and digital strategy across a diverse portfolio of programs and content. His work spans television, streaming, digital platforms, and new ways of connecting public media with audiences wherever they are.
His current portfolio includes Austin City Limits, This Old House, After Action, Reel South, Pacific Heartbeat, AfroPop, independent films, and a range of drama programming. He works closely with producers, filmmakers, and creative partners to shape and support programming that informs, illuminates, inspires, and brings people together.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, Michael is particularly interested in what comes next for public media. He believes there is an enormous opportunity to rethink how public media creates, distributes, and sustains meaningful storytelling in a digital-first world.
Before joining public media, Michael spent more than a decade producing in Los Angeles. His credits include the Disney+ original six-part docuseries The Imagineering Story, League of Legends Origins (released by Netflix and Riot Games), and Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table (released by Netflix and winner of the Audience Award at the New Orleans Film Festival).
Michael is a member of the Producers Guild of America Producers Council.
